Artificial intelligence is the biggest threat to humankind
Artificial Intelligence investor Elon Musk, although enthused about artificial intelligence, he also warns that it could become a threat to human race if not regulated properly.
While talking to the students of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology at the AeroAstro Centennial Symposium during an interview, he spoke about artificial intelligence, space exploration, the colonization of mars and computer science. He said during the symposium, “I think we should be very careful about artificial intelligence. If I had to guess at what our biggest existential threat is, it’s probably that. So we need to be very careful.”
“I’m increasingly inclined to think that there should be some regulatory oversight, maybe at the national and international level, just to make sure that we don’t do something very foolish.”
He is often likened to Tony Stark from Marvel’s Iron Man comics for his efforts in helping cutting – edge companies like Space X. The company has the first private contract from NASA to supply the requirements for the International Space Station and it also supplies to the electric car maker Tesla.
Looking at his investments, he was spoken of as “keeping an eye on what’s going on”, rather than viable return on capital. Musk said that by using artificial intelligence, we are summoning the demon. “In all those stories where there’s the guy with the pentagram and the holy water, it’s like – yeah, he’s sure he can control the demon. Doesn’t work out.”
He also spoke about colonization of Mars saying that getting there in single missions is really cool but making it a colony is important to change the future of humanity. Musk also said that being able to establish a civilization that is self-sustaining on Mars is what matters and that he doesn’t see anything is done to that end except Space X projects. He also said that no one is trying to make it come true.
