Will.i.am’s next innovation is a 3D printer dubbed Ekocycle Cube which gets some of its parts from recycled plastic bottles.

While his iPhone camera accessory didn’t make a big splash as expected, this 3D printer is expected to draw more attention as everyone likes 3D printers. 3D Systems, the company backing the project, has a partnership with Coca-Cola to develop Ekocycle Cube.

Will.i.am, Chief Creative Officer of 3D Systems said in a statement, “We will make it cool to recycle, and we will make it cool to make products using recycled materials.”

“This is the beginning of a more sustainable 3D-printed lifestyle. Waste is only waste if we waste it.”

The cartridge which contains the filament for printing the objects will include 25 percent of “post-consumer recycled materials” equaling an average of 3 plastic bottles.

The printer can print objects up to 6 inches cubed in colors including red, black, white and other natural colors. Will.i.am is also designing 25 tech minded accessories to accompany the printer for the fashion and music areas. Buyers will be able to use the Cubify app on their smartphones to browse the designs and print them using Ekocycle Cube.

The device is expected to hit shelves any time in the third quarter of 2014 with a price tag of $1,199.

Will.i.am has been a part of the development of other innovative products for big projects. For instance, he was named as the Director of Creative Innovation at Intel in January 2011 and he also had a stake in Beats Electronics which was recently acquired by Apple.

He also built Dipdive, a social media site, in 2008.

Will.i.am also produced a range of iPhone accessories dubbed i.am + iPhone in 2013, however, they didn’t get the desired attention. He also introduced a smartwatch earlier this year in April.
