The Zimbabwe President was climbing down from a raised podium at the airport and he seemed to miss a step and fell to the ground. His security team quickly stepped in and surrounded him to help him get up and reach his limousine parked outside.
Upon seeing him off, the officials noticed that photographers were present in the scene and the TV cameras had captured the fall. The journalists present on the scene were forced to delete the pictures of the incident by the security personnel of the President.
After a successful trip to the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, the President was returning from the summit which was taken part by 59 African nations on 30 January. He will celebrate his 90th birthday on 21 February and he has already been elected as the Chairman of African Union, which is a largely ceremonial role he will perform.
After Mugabe started seizing the white-owned farms in Zimbabwe, the country, with its 13 million people began struggling in different ways. He is now accused for using violence in several instances to win elections, according to human rights groups. The country also suffered from hyperinflation until it abandoned its currency and adopted the US dollar in 2009. Although several news organizations have published the incident with pictures, Mugabe’s press spokesperson has not yet commented on the incident.
Before the incident he addressed his supporters and fans who had gathered in Harare international airport to greet him after his successful summit in Ethiopia.
