Mommsen leads Scotland team tour
The National Selectors have chosen Preston Mommsen for the September – October tour which forms part of the team’s preparations for the World Cup series beginning in early 2015.
As the World Cup series is nearing, the teams are preparing to do their best and face the challenges and a few cricket teams are in internal conflicts. Amid the preparations, Scotland’s team will be led by Preston Mommsen chosen by the National Selectors for the tour this year. He will lead the side before Kyle Coetzer.
Head Coach Grant Bradburn said that he will lead the team in this tour and the squad will be revealed soon. He also said that the team has enough number of potential players and leaders who have the passion and are desperate to represent and lead their country.
“It is deemed a great honour to captain Scotland. Cricket-wise, however, it’s imperative that a captain can command with his performance. Preston Mommsen will captain on the back of the fact that he has thrived in recent times in this capacity and will lead the team on this tour”, said Bradburn.
Mommsen has played a significant role in the matches held in the recent past and helped the team reach the World Cup series by scoring 520 runs in eight innings. He was also elected player of the tournament in the ICC in the qualifying event of the ICC. Bradburn also said that Coetzer has been highly valued and respected senior member of the country and now he wants him to focus on his own game without bothering himself with the pressures of captaincy.
He said that the upcoming tour will give the team an opportunity to get the strength it needs and prepare for the World Cup series which will be the most challenging of all. The team has to play 15 games before it enters the World Cup matches.
