The search and rescue agency Chief Bambang Soelistyo said that an underwater object was lowered to take pictures of the objects. The Indonesian weather agency said that the biggest factor for the crash was bad weather as the jet disappeared seconds after it was asked to steer from the path to avoid a cloud.
The officials were able to recover 30 bodies so far and there have not been any survivors found since search operations began. Most of the bodies are thought to have been inside the plane. Soelistyo also said that the Indonesian Navy ship’s sonar has detected two large objects.
He said, “We found oil slicks and huge objects at 23:40 (16:40 GMT) last night. I am confident these are parts of the missing AirAsia plane that we are looking for. As I speak we are lowering an ROV (remotely operated underwater vehicle) to get an actual picture of the objects detected on the sea floor. All are at the depth of 30 metres.”
He added that the objects were 10 metres by five and the strong currents in the ocean made it difficult to operate underwater vehicles. Media has expressed hope that the objects could give answers to the questions of the search team and the plane’s black box flight recorders are being searched for, even though there have been no signals picked up from the plane.
The weather agency that analysed the weather in the area has said that the plane has likely flown into a storm which must have cut off all signals and made the plane crash into the water beneath.
